GOT QUESTIONS?
What exactly is this?
COLD is a sensory deprivation musical experience… We take away your sight so you can listen and focus on the music and sounds happening around you. We take away your comfort, setcha down on broken down cardboard boxes, and make you homeless for 2 hours. You actually BECOME part of the musical. The entire play is COMPLETELY auditory… Much like a 1950’s radio broadcast... Except there are live musical and busking performances happening inside your ear as the play plays on. We used voice actors from The Tree Haus Theater Company, let YouGenious orchestrate soundscapes behind the project, and Danimal score the entire thing. We then collaborated with over 25 artists and musicians from the Houston Music scene to put the icing and candles on the cake.
25 artists and musicians? Wow! That’s a lot! Who are they?
You(genious): The Misfit of R&B (writer/orchestrations), Danimal (composer), Steve Torres (mix & mastered) , Nosaprise, Dirty & Nasty, The Unbearable DJ Juan 1! (The Demonic Hen), Destonee, Jimmy Bl!tz (Alter Audio), Blair Doerge (Cantare Houston), Damien Denes, Jordan Pannell (LocalLiveHouston.com), Marcia Yingling (The Demonc Hen), Erin Rogers (Glass The Sky), Gustavo N. Roman (Shotgun Funeral), Steve Aikey, Ashley "Cash" Davis (Sand dollar Swing), Eric Jackson , Adam Martinez(The Ton Tons), Anthony Rathbun (photos), Jeanette Degollado (photos), and Michael Meza (photos). We also collaborated with Graf Writer Brandon Saad and street furniture artist Erika Salinas for the set designs along with artists Akiko Hagio, Megan Estopinal, Beniju Company (Japan), The Print Boxx, and Knife in the Back Clothiers (U.S.) for merchandising.
What’s the deal with the homeless thing… collecting clothing and blankets?
Firstly, the main character COLD is a homeless street performer. That’s how it ties in to the musical. Secondly, one of our missions at Imagination Cinema is to empower people to do something wonderful for someone other than themselves. Many times in life we forget that there are people much worse off than us. We sometimes take for granted the little things in our own busy lives that could quite possibly make a HUGE impact on others less fortunate. This is an example of building community through art. Help us spread the message and TOGETHER we can change the world with kindness. Imagine that...
Essentially, Imagination Cinema wants to make people better people...one show at a time. Giving back is hard for many of us… BUT WE MAKE IT EASY! All you have to do is show up and shell out! We do the rest!
MAN! That’s pretty BAD-ASS! What can I do to help?
